Okay, so maybe I have finally found the motivation to sift through 1200 pictures and post my first trip to Italy in November. There is something so much more personal about Florence and Ravenna. Ravenna turned out to be way more interesting than I had anticipated. I am pretty sure that a third of those pictures are of the same thing over and over there. For the same amount of time in Rome, I took only a third of that amount. Maybe I should resort back to a film camera. Well, here is something even if it is never finished.
Santa Maria del Fiore at 7 in the morning.
Italy in the morning is great. No random strangers to get in the middle of your pictures.
Santa Croce.
Now that brought back memories. I'm just glad we never had to wear a uniform.
In Palazzo Vecchio, probably the only thing that actually looked old.
Okay, these too.
View from the battlements. I would have had one from the tower (below), but like any typical Italian, the lady closed the door and took an hour long smoking break because it was raining. Guess what? It wasn't.
And here is the tower I could not go up.
The sky was exceptionally gorgeous while I was there.
The lovely River Arno and Ponte Vecchio.
View near sunset from Piazzale Michelangelo.
Santa Maria Novella.
The stairs leading to the Laurentian Library, designed by Michelangelo.
More Michelangelo. I do not think anybody else could have gotten away with half this stuff.
Brancacci Chapel.
I just had to take another picture with the olive trees.
Michelangelo's tomb in Santa Croce.
This is hilarious. Back in sophomore year, I was taking an Italian Renaissance Art History course. For my final grade I had to write an essay about this fresco, identifying whether it was of the Florentian or Siennese school. I knew I had seen it before, and since I had never been to Siena, I said it was Florentian. I made up a whole bunch of worthless reasons as to why because I missed that part of the course. The teacher had it in for me, so she gave me a B because I had no good support. I told her I had seen it before in Florence and she made me write a new paper with a new topic. I should have kept my mouth shut.
